Veda Lorraine Krigbaum

April 21, 1943 — December 30, 2021

   Veda Lorraine Krigbaum, 78 of Mayville, ND died Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, surrounded by her family after a long illness.

   Veda Lorraine Boedeker was born April 21, 1943, to Otto and Manda (Nelson) Boedeker in Mayville, ND. She attended school in Mayville, ND, and graduated from Mayville High School in 1961.

   She married Robert C. Krigbaum on February 4, 1966, at Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND. They had four children: Robert, Paula, William, Jonathan. As a wife of an Air Force Military member, she lived in many places, from Mississippi, Texas, Japan, Grand Forks, and ultimately settling in Mayville, ND.

   She started her advanced education in Mayville State University then to The University of Texas at San Antonio and completing her Bachelor of Science Degree in Art and Education from the University of North Dakota. Once completing her degree, she substitute taught in the Grand Forks Public Schools, after which she was hired as the part time art teacher for Sacred Heart High School. Over time she developed the art department into a full-time art program for the high school. She enjoyed her students and loved being known as Mrs. K. During this time, she published the Living Composition, 1992, which explores applying the factors that exist in a true work of art to our spiritual growth and development. Throughout her life she continuously wrote poetry, publishing some and winning several awards including the Golden Poet Award.

   Veda was a faith-centered person who sought to integrate the deep insights of the creative process with the experience of living our lives in Christ. She loved sharing her thoughts with family and friends, through her art, poetry, and storytelling. She also had a great love of nature, she loved planning and planting her flower gardens and watching the various animals and birds that would visit the farm.

   Veda’s biggest passion second to her faith was her family.  She spent her life creating moments to remember and cherish within the family. Her legacy lives on within the hearts of us all.

   She is survived by her husband: Robert C. Krigbaum; her children: Robert A. (Missy) Krigbaum of Grand Forks, Paula (Ross) Walden of Buxton and Jonathan (Lisa) Krigbaum of Grand Forks; grandchildren: Christopher (Rachel) Walden, Ash Walden, Zac Walden, Peter Krigbaum, Joseph Krigbaum, Katie (Dallin) White, Amanda (Alex) Fazz, Lauren Krigbaum and Jacob Krigbaum; great grandchildren: Alexander, Matthew, Maximus, Annabelle, and two on the way; one sister: Gail Filipi of Mayville and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

   Veda was preceded in death by her parents: Otto and Manda; two infant sisters: Blanche and Naomi, her sister Joyce; brother: Allan and her son: William.

Visitation:  Will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Memorial Service: Will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND.

Burial: Will be in Aurdal Cemetery in Portland, ND.
