Susan Cordahl, 49, of Mayville, ND passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
She was born on Friday, April 29th 1977 in Mayville to Gary and Karen Huso. She was baptized and confirmed at the United Church of Christ in Mayville. She attended school in Mayville and graduated in 1995. In 1997 she married Tim Rux and together they had a son, Tyler. She worked her way through college at Mayville State University where she earned her Associates Degree. In 2002 she married Kelly Cordahl and they had two daughters, Chloe and Jovie. She dedicated 16 years of her career to Mayville State University, where she served as a Financial Aid Officer, Academic Advisor, and eventually Director of Financial Aid. During her time at Mayville State, she continued pursuing her own education and earned her Master of Education degree in May of 2024. Her years of dedication and commitment to helping students led to her receiving the NDASFAA President’s Award in 2025. She was known for being personable and was highly respected and loved by all faculty and students.
Susan had a gift for making the people around her feel loved and connected. She enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with her family and friends, whether she was planning a holiday gathering, organizing a family celebration, or taking one of the many trips she loved. After reconnecting with her longtime friend, Kyle VanLear, she enjoyed road trips to Nebraska, and the two were married in 2025. She found happiness in life's everyday moments, sharing home-cooked meals, baking treats, singing along to her favorite music, laughing while watching Jimmy Fallon, and capturing special memories with her camera. Susan loved family trips to Duluth, decorating for every holiday, and could always be counted on to keep everyone organized and together. With her quick wit, positive spirit, and gentle way of keeping the peace, she brought comfort and laughter wherever she went. She never passed up an opportunity to challenge her mom, Karen, to a game of Scrabble and took pride in writing her Amazon reviews. Susan embraced life with humor, kindness, and a genuine love for the people who meant the most to her. Above all, she loved being a mom. Her children were her greatest joy, and the time she spent with her family was what she cherished most.
Susan is survived by her husband, Kyle VanLear; children, Tyler, Chloe, and Jovie; mother, Karen Huso; siblings, Cathi Hanson and Doug Huso; several nephews; numerous cousins; and aunts and uncles.
