Sandra L. Martz

March 26, 1942 — November 1, 2019

Sandra Le (Sandy) Martz, 77, Mayville ND, died Friday, November 1, 2019 at Luther Memorial Home. Through our pain and sadness, we give thanks that her struggle with COPD and renal disease has ended.

Sandy was born March 26, 1942 in Minot ND.  She lived with her parents, Orville and Ida Anderson, and her 4 siblings in Stanley ND, before moving to Lakota as a young child. She graduated from Lakota High School and went on to attend UND.
Sandy was united in marriage to Wallace C (Wally) Martz in June 1962.  She lived in Lakota while Wally served in Viet Nam, and in Grand Forks upon his return. They relocated to Mayville in 1972, where they raised their 5 children and later divorced.

As her children reached adulthood, Sandy returned to school and worked for a short time as a laboratory technician at Union Hospital in Mayville.

Sandy loved her kids, Grandkids and Great-grandkids above all. She was the ultimate "Mom" and fun "Grandma Sandy" to them as well as all their friends. She was quick with her humor, wisecracks and her thoughtful assessment of situations, and willing to wise advice but never pushy with it. She loved to read and play solitaire in her alone time, but equally enjoyed the visits of cherished family and friends.
Sandy is survived by her children: Kristin (Bret) Vie, Kathlyn (Mike) Rexine, Eric (Miranda) Martz, Aron (Jerri) Martz, Kadra Martz (Scott Hass); and Grandchildren: Isaiah, Elizabeth (Dan), Alaina, Ross (Brianne), Annale, Leah, Sydney, Makenna, Caitren, Jeron, Ryen, Esten, Amalie, Nicholas, Jackson & Matthew; Great-grandchildren: June and Elle; Siblings: Kathlyn Kolberg, Aron (Mary) Anderson, Sherry Duncan and Pam Ivy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Ida (Hermanson) Anderson; Parents in law, Walter and Edline (Estenson) Martz, and Brother in law, Don Kolberg.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Hospice of the Red River Valley, whose excellent care was so appreciated by Sandy and her family.
