Robert "Bob" Nygord

   Robert “Bob” Dale Nygord, 92, formerly of Finley, ND passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. 

   Bob was born on April 8, 1931 to John and Ovidia (Frojen) Nygord in rural Finley, ND. He was raised and educated near Finley. Bob proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1952-1953 in Korea.

    Bob married the love of his life, Irene Jacobson, on August 19, 1956. They lived on a farm near Finley until they bought a house in Finley where they raised their four children: Richard, Douglas, Ernest, and Janell.

   Bob worked various jobs throughout his life. He farmed, drove semi over-the-road, hauled trash, custom combined, hauled sugar beets, and hauled grain and fertilizer for Finley Elevator. He loved to drive and always gave 110% in everything he did.

   Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children when they were younger. Bob loved working in the yard. He enjoyed tinkering around in the garage and fixing things. He had remodeled every room in the house and also removed a few walls to make rooms bigger. In the late 70’s, Bob decided to try his hand at painting and enrolled in a local painting class at the school. He turned out to be quite the artist and ended up doing a half dozen oil paintings. 

   Bob was a member of the Peterson-Olson Post 13 American Legion for 70 years and also served as Commander. He was a life-long member of Ostervold Lutheran Church and also served on the church council.

   Bob is survived by his wife Irene; children: Richard (Cindy) Nygord of Jamestown, ND, Douglas (Joni) Nygord of Mayville, ND, Ernest (Dawn) Nygord of Fargo, ND and Janell (Rob) Soell of Haysville, KS; grandchildren: Kylee Nygord, Ryan (Rae) Nygord, Kaia Nygord, Aaron (Marisa) Nygord, Austin Soell and Alyssa Soell; great-grandchild: Scarlett Nygord; brothers: Fred (Mary) Nygord and Dennis (Joanne) Nygord; sisters-in-law: Edna Hansegard, Shirley Jacobson and Arlene Jacobson; brothers-in-law: Willard (Donna) Jacobson, Norris Jacobson and Edwin (Marlys) Jacobson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

   Bob is preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law: Adeline Jacobson, Esther Deltener, Agnes Haugtvedt and Elaine Jacobson; and brothers-in-law: Elmer Jacobson, Marvin Jacobson, Robert Jacobson, Orville Jacobson, Gus Deltener, Roy Haugtvedt and Melvin Hansegard.

Visitation:  Will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Funeral Service: Will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 26, 2024 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND.

Military Honors: Finley American Legion Post 13 and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors. 

Burial: Will be in the Ostervold Cemetery in Finley, ND.
