Paul Craig Moen

February 28, 1950 — October 14, 2019

Paul C. Moen, 69, of Mayville, ND, passed away peacefully at home on October 14, 2019, under the care of Hospice of the RRV.

Paul Craig Moen was born on February 28, 1950, in Mayville, the son of Harold and Emilie (Mork) Moen. He was raised on the family farm north of Mayville. He attended Morgan #3 through 4th grade, and then continued his education at Mayville Public school, graduating in 1968. He then attended UND for one year.

Paul married Jean Ann Larson on July 26, 1969, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mayville. Paul graduated from Mayville State University in 1972 with a composite BS degree in music. He taught junior high music in Carrington, ND, from 1972-74. In 1974, he started his second and final career as a farmer, which he successfully did until he retired in 2015.

Paul was a 38-year member of the Traill County Insurance Company, which later merged with Steele County Insurance. He served on the Traill County FSA board, and was president of the Traill Aerie Eagles Club for 4 years. Paul was a founding member of the German Band, which entertained crowds during summer parades across ND. He was a substitute band teacher in the winter months and enjoyed encouraging young musicians. Paul joined the Catholic Church in 2004. He always had a joke and a smile to share, and was loyal, unassuming, and admired for his determination to always do the right thing, even when inconvenient. Paul loved spending time with his family, especially with his seven grandchildren, who all lovingly called him, “Papa.”
