Murlene (Amb) Braaten Marotzke, 92, of Mayville, ND died on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
She was born June 7, 1928 in Portland, ND to Martin and Marie (Haugen) Amb. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Portland.
Murlene married Eugene Braaten in the mid 1940’s. They lived in Portland and had three children: Deanna, Pamela and Duane. The family moved to Ada, MN and purchased a farm. In the 1960’s, they moved to Grand Forks, ND and Murlene worked at Toby’s Café.
She married Maurice Firn in Grand Forks and they lived in Spain and Turkey while he was in the Air Force. Later they settled in Tampa Florida until his death in 1973. Murlene moved to Burnsville, MN and married Sidney Marotzke. She worked in Savage, MN until her retirement. She retired to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1992 and returned to Portland, ND in 2003. Murlene resided in Portland until entering the Luther Memorial Home in 2015.
She was a devoted and supportive mother, loving wife and sister. She will always be known as a good provider and as a very generous, caring friend to many. Murlene was a good cook, but couldn’t make lefsa.
Murlene is survived by her son: Duane Braaten of Fridley, MN; 2 grandsons: Robert and Michael of Burnsville, MN; and sister: Edna Cook of Lehigh Acres, FL.
She was preceded in death by her daughters: Deanna and Pamela; parents; 3 sisters: Ruda Hanson, Claudine Thompson and Delores Amb; and 3 brothers: Thomas, Alvin and Ingolf Amb.
Masks are recommended.
Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND.
Funeral Service: 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND.
Burial: Will be in the Hatton Cemetery in Hatton, ND.
