Michael Hallingstad

   Michael Ray Hallingstad, 67, of Sharon, ND died from complications of cancer on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

   Mike was born September 24, 1953 in Mayville, ND to Wilfred and Gloria (Beck) Hallingstad. He grew up on a farm and attended school in Portland. Mike’s career in the bean business started at Portland Bean and spanned more than 30 years. He was a founder and partner of SRS, located in Mayville, and after selling that business, moved to Sharon, ND where he helped start Sharon Bean before moving into management at American Bean.

   Mike had a joke, an eye roll, or a story for everyone he met; the latter getting even better with age. He was known far and wide as a hard worker and someone that would never ask you to do something he wouldn’t do himself. Though he rarely took time off, Mike would make the occasional trip to Denver to visit his daughter and attend a Broncos game, the only sports team worth talking about.

   He is survived by his mother: Gloria of Portland, ND; fiancé: Christina Frederick of Sharon, ND; three children: Sally of Denver, CO, Peter of Mayville, ND and Sarah of Fargo, ND; four step-children: Shaye, Levi and Parker Frederick of Grand Forks, ND and Chase Frederick of Sharon, ND; two grandchildren: Micha of Fargo, ND and Cora Hulm of Mayville, ND; one sister: Kathy (Neil) Lerfald of Portland, ND; and four nieces and their families.

   He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation: Will be from 9 to 10:30 AM on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND.

Memorial Service: Will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 13, 2021 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial: Will be in the Perry Lutheran Cemetery, Portland, ND.
