Mary Victoria Baldock, 89, of Mayville, ND, passed away on December 7, 2025, at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville.
Mary was born to Victor and Helen (Rothecker) Johnson on July 29, 1936. She grew up and attended school in Mayville, and graduated from Mayville High School.
Mary married Lowell Baldock on November 16, 1956 at Mayville Lutheran Church. They farmed and raised 3 children: Steve, Vicki, and Dale on the family farm southwest of Portland. Mary worked several years at Union Hospital in Mayville, where she was a Nurses Aide. She often spoke of how she enjoyed taking care of all the babies in the nursery. In 1975 Lowell + Mary became business owners in Clifford, ND until their retirement in 1997.
Mary and Lowell were well-known for their love of gardening. Not only did they have a vast vegetable garden; Mary also spent a majority of her free time tending to her meticulous, beautiful flower gardens. She took so much pride in showing others her exquisite flower beds. They truly were masterpieces.
If you knew Mary, you know she was an outstanding cook. At a very young age she started helping her mother cook for the farm hired men. What she learned from that experience carried with her through her life. Everything was made from "scratch" and if you were to ask her for a certain recipe, her response was always "Oh, I just dump." Her size of portions and variety of food was unmatched.
An entertaining sense of humor is something Mary will always be known for. She took such pleasure in laughter and making others laugh. No one outshined Mary and her quick-witted one liners. Her love of laughter will truly be missed.
A loving family and life-long friends were always such an important part of Mary's life. In 2018 when Mary made the move to Mayville, she met many new friends. During her last few years, with her Luther Memorial Home neighbors and staff, Mary made and loved additional new friends. She became well known at LMH for her blowing of kisses and her notorious "YOO-HOO" greeting to anyone walking by. She treasured all the caring conversations and visits by friends, old and new. Long or short, each and every visit was cherished by her.
Mary is survived by her children: Steve (Kathy) Baldock of Mayville, Vicki (Andrew) Schreiner of Mayville, Dale (Lori) Baldock of Portland; Grandchildren: Chad Baldock, Ryan (Haley) Baldock, Justin (Kara) Schreiner, Allison Schreiner, Brandon (Amanda) Schreiner, Erica Baldock, Chelsey (Jack) Reimer; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Eleanor Bjerke, Darlene (Darwyn) Aune; a brother: Ralph (Geri) Johnson, a brother-in-law: Lynn Baldock; a sister-in-law: Phyllis Allred; many special nieces and nephews; and many old and new friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years: Lowell; a sister: Delores Baldock; brothers-in-law: Richard Bjerke, Donald, Howard, and Dennis Baldock, and Lyder Swenson; sister-in-law: Irene Swenson; and several dear friends.
