Marvin Paul Sand

     Marvin Paul Sand, 88, of Mayville, ND passed away December 28, 2023, at Sanford Hospital Mayville, ND with family at his side.

   Marvin was born on December 19, 1935, in Buxton, ND to Peter and Olive (Foss) Sand.  He was raised on their family farm near Galesburg, ND and graduated from Clifford High School in 1954.  He served in the Army National Guard from 1955-1963.

   On July 10, 1959, he married the love of his life Darlene Moritz of Emerado, ND.  They started their life together in Fargo, ND where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Abbott, Arne, Schwindt, Inc. as well as a mechanic in the winter months.  They moved to Grand Forks in 1962, then back to Fargo where they purchased their first home in 1972 continuing his same career until buying a farmstead in 1975 in rural Clifford, ND.  Where they farmed and raised their four children until he retired in 1997.

Marvin was also very active in the community serving on the Clifford Township, Ethanol, and Soil Conservation boards.  He also served as president of the Clifford Senior Citizens and Stordahl Lutheran Church Council.

   After he retired from farming, he kept busy with his passion of restoring antique tractors and woodworking.  He started with his grandfather’s 1925 16-30 Hart-Parr and ended with a 1973 Allis Chalmers 220.  He enjoyed taking them to parades, Big Iron, tractor pulls, and Rollag.  He especially enjoyed volunteering at Rollag Threshing Reunions where he made sure to attach his Hartt-Parr to the threshing machine.

Marvin enjoyed his grandchildren, great grandchildren, family gatherings, children’s activities, fishing, hunting, camping, playing pinochle, mechanic work, going to cardiac rehab, and yearly trips to Norsk Hostfest.

   Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 64 years: Darlene; children: Wanda (Dale) Wold, Grand Forks, ND, Kent (Jolene) Sand, West Fargo, ND, Lisa (Jeffrey) Karel, Eagan, MN, Philip (Janet) Sand, Bismarck, ND; 8 grandchildren: Derek (Tatjanna) Sand, Kenna Jo (Alec) Rowland, Kennedi Sand, Kendra (Tyler) Bohannon, Taylor (Jaime) Karel, Tyra (Ben) Putman, Breena Sand, Brooklyn Sand; 4 great grandchildren: Charlie and Maiken Bohannon, Lennon Sand, Tiegan Karel; brothers: Delno, Jerry (Carol), Ervin (Bertha), Leon (Shirley); sister: Patricia (Bennie) Grandalen; and many nieces and nephews.

   Marvin was preceded in death by his parents: Peter and Olive Sand; grandparents: Peder and Melia Foss; sister: Joanne Olstad; brother-in-law: Ordell Olstad.

Visitation:  Will be 5–7 PM on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 with a 6:30 PM Public Prayer Service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: Will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at the Stordahl Lutheran Church in rural Galesburg, ND.

Military Honors: Galesburg American Legion Post 210 and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors.

Burial: Will be in the Stordahl Cemetery in rural Galesburg, ND.
