   Marian Elizabeth (Olson) Johnson, 94 of Mayville, ND died Thursday March 7, 2024 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

   Marian was born December 5th,1929 in Hillsboro Hospital, Hillsboro ND, to Alvin and Leona (Brokke) Olson. Marian grew up on the family farm and attended rural Norway #4 school, a 1/4 mile from home. Marian attended Oak Grove High School in Fargo, ND graduated 1947, then went on to Northwestern Bible College on Minneapolis, MN, then attended Mayville State Teachers College in Mayville, ND received her degree in Elementary Education, Music and Library Minor. She was involved in many activities, fundraisers, etc at Mayville State. Marian LOVED Mayville State. Marian went on to teach at Fargo schools, 1st grade of 1 year, then to Lakota schools, Music 1st thru 12th grade, then to Grand Forks schools, 3rd grade and Music 4th -6th grade, 8 years.

   Marian was involved with Grace Baptist Church in Grand Forks and was a founding member of the Faith Evangelical Free Church, then attended and was a member of Cummings Evangelical Free Church, now known as Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Mayville, she played piano and organ for each of the churches. Marian was involved with Mayville Women’s Club, Farm Bureau, M-300 at Mayville State, Republican Women, Multiple church organizations, Cooperstown Bible Camp and very active in Gideons International Auxiliary.

   In 1968 Marian retired from teaching in public education and married Ordell (Bud) Johnson on June 22, 1968, where they lived on the family farm until 1994, Marian became an instant MOM when she married Bud, with three boys, Dale 14, Daryl 12, Neal 8, Wow her hands were FULL! Marian stepped into learning how to be a mom quickly and did a fantastic job, loving us and teaching us. Most important lesson was how to be a Prayer Warrior! Marian would have a prayer list and pray throughout the day and before bed for all in need of prayer. In 1994 Bud and Marian moved into Mayville, ND in 2012 they moved into the Sun Center Assisted Living in Mayville and in July13, 2023 Marian moved into the Luther Memorial Home.

   Marian LOVED being Grandma to her 7 grandchildren and her 12 great grandchildren who were her life and total enjoyment, she loved to spoil each of them in their own special way, especially with Grandma’s chocolate chip cookies! Marian made cookies faithfully for many years, up until 2022, for the boys at the farm, 2 dozen per week and many of the salesmen and friends from the area knew that each Tuesday was fresh Grandma cookies at the Johnson Farm. 

   Marian is survived by her sons: Dale (Diane) Johnson of Cummings, Daryl (Karen) Johnson of Mayville and Neal (Gaylene) Johnson of Cummings; grandchildren: Staci (Ryan) Anderson of Bismarck ND, Ross (Allison) Johnson of Mayville ND, Mindy (Travis) Dale of Austintown OH, Mandy (Lee) Nelson of New London MN, Heather (Kevin) Swanson of West Fargo ND, Ryan (Kriscinda) Johnson of Mayville, ND; great grandchildren: Haylee & Kain Dale, Isaac & Olivia Anderson, Faith, Sophia & Micah Johnson, Brooklyn Swanson, Tatum & Raya Nelson.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Ordell (Bud); brother: Dennis; grandson: Jeremy Johnson and great granddaughters: Verna Ann & Lily Johnson.  

 

Visitation:  Will be 5–7 PM on Thursday, March 14, 2024 with a 6:30 PM Public Prayer Service at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: Will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, March 15, 2024 at the Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Mayville, ND.

Burial: Will be at 1:00 PM Friday in the Carlson Cemetery, Cummings, ND.
