Lori Jean Ham

     Lori Jean (Smith) Ham, 59, of Aneta, ND passed away Friday, April 13, 2018, at Mayville Sanford Hospital.      Lori was born July 5, 1958 at the Northwood Deaconess, daughter of Gene and Donna (Nelson) Smith. She grew up in rural Aneta attending Sharon Public School through her sophomore year and graduated from Aneta High School in 1976. Following high school she attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks. She enrolled in Mayville State University where she graduated with a Biology/Chemistry Major. She then did 4 years at Northwest Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN graduating with a BS in Human Biology and a Doctorate in Chiropractics.      Lori married Myron Ham Saturday, June 23, 1979 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sharon ND. They lived in Aneta ND, where they raised their two children. Lori lived in Plymouth, MN, from 2005 to 2009 while completing her doctorate and then returning to her home in Aneta with her family.      She had many occupations over the years such as secretary/assistant bookkeeper at the Poor Grain in Grand Forks, assistant accountant for an engineering/architect firm in Grand forks prior to her marriage in 1979. She did bookwork for her father and then Myron and Lori purchased the Station in Aneta where they worked together. Eventually she started to do a daycare that she continued for decades, and bookwork for her sister at the store in Sharon. She then made the decision to return to college in 2002. After graduating in 2009 she moved back home and opened up Essential Chiropractic in Cooperstown, ND. Over the few years Essential was open she had managed to build an astounding business and devoted clientele. She will be greatly missed by many for her thorough services, gentle touch, and sincere concern for the well-being of her clients. She was also a part of many organizations including WELCA, Sundahl Lutheran church, church choir, American Legion Auxillary, Eastern Star, Aneta Community Band, and Aneta City Counsel. She had a love for music, whether singing or playing piano or saxophone.      She is preceded in death by her father: Gene Smith; grandparents: Wallace (Toots) and Marie Smith, Adolph and Mayme Nelson; father and mother-in-law: Julious and Mariam Ham; and her sister-in-law: Maureen Grove.      Lori was survived by her husband: Myron Ham of Aneta; sons: Jeff Ham of Robbinsdale MN, and Griffin Ham of Fargo ND; granddaughter: Jordan Blue of Fargo; mother: Donna Smith of Sharon ND; brother: Bobby Smith of Shelby, NC; sisters: Sheri (Bob) Lee of Sharon, and Patti Smith of Finley, ND; brothers-in-law: Mike, Mallory (Kelly), Mitchell (Joni), and Merlin Ham; and also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.   Visitation:  Will be 5–7 PM with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Sundahl Lutheran Church in Aneta, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Sundahl Lutheran Church in Aneta, ND. Burial: Will be in the Silent Hill Cemetery in Aneta, ND.
