Lois Petersen passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, ND.
Lois was born on 9/23/28 in Ruthven, IA, to Otto and Mabel Spies. She lived in Emmetsburg, IA until October of 1940 when the family moved to Mayville, ND. She graduated from Mayville High School. Lois married Milton Wolden on 10/24/48 and together they had five children: Diane, Mary Jo, Gary Lynn, Randy and Linda. Lois worked many years for her parents at Three Star Dairy in Mayville. She also worked at the Mayville Lutheran Memorial Home for many years helping the residents as an aide. Lois was very active on the Sunshine Committee at Mayville Lutheran Church and also was involved with the ladies Circle Group.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Milton passed away on December 25, 1992. Lois then lived alone in Mayville until she met Elwood Hensrud. They dated and became quite the dancing couple! Elwood and Lois were married in July 2002 and resided in Mayville until April 2005 when Elwood passed away. Lois met James Petersen and was married in Park River, ND, in June 2008. They then resided in Mekinock, ND, until July of 2022 when Lois moved to Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, ND. James passed away in August 2023.
Lois was also preceded in death by her brothers Gerry and Keith Spies; daughter, Mary Jo Neiss; son, Gary Lynn Wolden; and sons-in-law Marlin Evenstad and Dennis Neiss. Lois is survived by her daughters Diane Evenstad, Grand Forks, and Linda (Jeff) Franz, Mesa, AZ; son Randy (Vickie) Wolden, West Fargo, ND; brother Fred Spies, St. Petersburg, FL; step-daughter Teresa Petersen, Park River, ND; step-sons Jim Petersen, Wentworth, SD; and Darel Petersen, Fordville, ND; grandchildren Roger and Allen (Tiffany) Neiss, Mitchell (Jennifer), Benjamin (Kaitlyn), Kory (Leah) Wolden, Andrew and Alex Franz; great grandchildren Emily, Logan, Brennan, Sutton, Brekken and Reese Wolden.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Bethany Retirement Homes for the wonderful care they gave to Lois.
Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: Will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at the Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND.
Burial: Will be in Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
