Kenneth D. Eken, 91, of Mayville, ND died Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.
Kenneth Duane Eken was born the son of Knut and Clara (Smestad) Eken at rural Hatton, ND on September 4, 1932. He grew up in the Hatton area and after his schooling, he worked various construction jobs before being drafted at the age of 20 into the US Army in February of 1953 and served in Korea for 2 years. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Mayville, ND.
Ken married Lorraine Tinseth on April 27, 1957 at Lotts Creek, IA. He started working at Mayville State College at the heating plant as a boiler operator until retiring in 1994.
Ken was an avid sports fan, attending many local high school and college sporting events. He never missed an opportunity to work the “chain gang” at football games. He also enjoyed softball, horseshoes, golf and bean bag toss.
After retiring, he served the community as a local handyman and enjoyed woodworking. Spending his time doing his hobby of wood splitting, chopping and tree clearing.
He is survived by 2 sons: Craig (Kim) Eken of Grand Forks, ND and Kevin Eken of Mayville, ND; 5 grandchildren: Chad (Heather) Eken, Jill (Bryan) Knick, Kyle (Jamiee) Eken, Jordon (Kayla) Eken and Eric Eken along with 10 great-grandchildren.
Ken is preceded in death by his wife: Lorraine; parents; 2 sisters: Evelyn Anderson and Caroline Tunseth; 4 brothers: Arvid, Stanley, Dennis and Robert.
Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: Will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND.
Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors.
Burial: Will be in the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
