Jane E. Holden

November 10, 1940 — March 6, 2018

Jane Eleanor Holden, 77 years of age, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Sanford Hospital in Mayville, North Dakota.      Jane was born November 10, 1940 in Laramie, Wyoming to the late Gerald and Marion Merrick. She was the second daughter of three and is survived by her sister Shelley of Mesquite, Nevada. Jane grew up and was educated in Laramie, WY and graduated from Laramie High School in 1958.      On December 7, 1958 Jane married her high school sweetheart, the late David Allen Holden. David was also born and educated in Laramie, WY.  They settled in San Diego, CA where David began his military career in the United States Navy. They raised two children; daughter Rebecca and son, David Jr.      During the early sixties the couple moved from Navy housing in San Diego to their first home in Poway, CA. Jane always had a love of all things musical and enjoyed playing the piano and the clarinet. She enjoyed camping trips to the California deserts and mountains and especially enjoyed going to the beach. In the early seventies they moved to a new home and new adventure when they purchased a “fixer-upper” with a few acres of land near Lake Wohlford in Escondido, CA. During the next several years the family acquired quite the menagerie of animals such as horses, pigs, goats, chickens, dogs and cats while renovating and adding on to their home.      Jane worked as a retail clerk for many years and helped her husband David through law school after he retired from the Navy. Once husband David began his legal career she went on to be his legal secretary.      After Rebecca and David were grown and married, the couple returned to their home town Laramie, WY. It was while living in Laramie Jane and David took in grandchildren Anthony (deceased 2012), Adam, Andrea and Aften and along with help from son David raised the children to adult hood. They spent a few years living in Laramie then onto a home in Chugwater, WY and then to Wheatland, WY. In 2002 they made a move back out west and found a home in Pahrump, Nevada.      On December 7, 2008, Jane and David celebrated 50 years of marriage by renewing their wedding vows at their beloved church in Pahrump, Nevada.  After husband David passed in 2010, Jane was happy giving her time to her church and volunteered regularly at her church food pantry.      In September of 2015 Jane was badly injured in a car accident and had to be hospitalized in Las Vegas for several weeks. After her recovery she was moved to Hatton, North Dakota to live with her son David and his wife Teri.  She resided with them up until October 2017 and then became a happy resident of Hatton Prairie Village. While living at the Village Jane made many new friends and thoroughly enjoyed all the activities provided by the amazing staff of HPV.      Jane loved reading her Bible, praying for others, spending time with family and friends, laughing and always had a ready smile for everyone.  She was a very loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.      Jane is survived by her sister Shelley as previously mentioned; her daughter Rebecca and her husband Richard; her son David and his wife Teri; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.   Visitation:  Will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton, ND.
