Grace K Wolden

   Grace Katherine Wolden (91), passed away peacefully at Sanford Medical Center in Mayville, ND on November 18, 2023.

   Grace was born on May 27, 1932 to Clifford and Frances Murray.  She married Kermit Wolden on June 4, 1952 in Casselton, ND.  She taught in rural schools until the birth of their children. Grace returned to college at Mayville State and got her teaching license in the early 1970’s, and started her teaching career at Central Valley Schools in Buxton, ND until her retirement.  She loved teaching, her students, and still received greetings from former students, who many referred to as their favorite teacher.  In her spare time, after the school day was over, she would help Kermit during harvest until his retirement.  She served on several committees and boards.

   Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church was very important to her.  She was often found in the kitchen during funerals and other church functions, doing what she loved until her health made it difficult to do any longer. After Kermit’s death in 2009, she moved into Mayville and later to Sun Center where she met many new friends.  She always claimed that she never would have dreamed that she could have life so good.  She will be missed by many.

   She is survived by her children, William Wolden, Grand Forks, ND; Peggy (Arlie) Strand, Mayville, ND; Lori (Joel) Nelson, Portland, ND; her grandchildren Chad (Minda) Strand, Mayville, ND; DeAnna (Shane) Kyllo, Mayville, ND; Erik (Amanda) Nelson, Fargo, ND; and Nicholas (Ashley) Nelson, Mayville, ND; her great grandchildren Abigail Grace Strand, Jordan Sherva, Jax Kyllo, Eli Nelson, Jaelyn Nelson, Lilyanna Nelson and Nova Grace Nelson; and her sister Kathy (Jim) Dostal, Badger, MN.

   Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit; her parents Clifford and Frances Murray; brothers Robert Murray and William Murray and sister-in-law Mary Murray. 

Visitation:  Will be from 4–6 PM on Sunday, November 26, 2023 with a 6:00 PM Public Prayer Service at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service.

Funeral Service: Will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, November 27, 2023 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mayville, ND.

Burial: Will be in the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
