Gary O. Bergstrom

October 3, 1944 — March 30, 2022

Gary O Bergstrom passed Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, TX with his loving children and their spouses by his side.

Gary was born on October 3, 1944, in Fargo, ND(Cass County) to Oliver and Lucille (Berge) Bergstrom. He was raised two miles west of Blabon, North Dakota, and graduated from Hope High School in 1962. Gary always was a cowboy and a farmer growing up.

On August 21, 1964, married LinDa (Thompson) Bergstrom. They lived in Hope, ND for a short time while Gary helped farm with his father-in-law Franklin Thompson. They moved to Fargo while LinDa attended nursing school. The couple decided to start a life adventure and moved to Denver, CO, where Gary attended barber school and worked in downtown Denver.  A highlight of his barber career was cutting hair for some of the players of the Denver Broncos.

In 1974, Gary and LinDa moved back to Finley, North Dakota to continue his love of farming with his brother Roger and father Oliver on the Bergstrom Ranch. Gary had a lifetime passion for horses and being a cowboy. Gary had many interests: leatherworking, painting, history buff, avid reader, cards and cribbage player, riding the trails with his horses Buddy and Major, as well as studying maps.

Gary was a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and family-oriented person. Gary was a Mason, Shriner, elevator board president, church board president, friend, brother, and caring individual. Upon retirement, Gary and LinDa enjoyed their winters in Alamo, Texas where they built many wonderful friendships. Gary had an easy-going personality and could start a conversation with anyone. Gary had a warm inviting smile that always made you feel welcome. Gary’s biggest treasure was his family and being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Gary is survived by his sons: Tor (Karen) Bergstrom of Finley, ND and Kyl (Amy) Bergstrom of Platte City, M0; daughters: Taasha (Travis) Zerface of West Fargo, ND and Katrina (Josh) Blikre of Bismarck, ND; grandchildren: Zak, Tessa, Dacotah, Abigail, Allison, Alexa, Tran, Tiara, Riley, Tova and Rune; great-grandchildren: Piper, Dekker, and Oliver; sisters: Marcia Mitzel of Davenport IA and Nancy (Mike) Kainz of Hope ND; ; sister-in-law: Jan Bergstrom of Mayville, ND; and multiple nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life: LinDa (Thompson) Bergstrom; parents; sisters: Carmen Gay Bergstrom and Linda (Ken) Jacobsen; brothers: Roger Olaf Bergstrom and Allen “Benny” Bergstrom.
