Fyrne O. Berthold

   Fyrne O. Berthold, 69, of Mayville, ND passed away on December 22, 2019 at the Luther Memorial Home, Mayville.

   Fyrne was born in Mayville, ND on July 29, 1950 to Bill and Evelyn (Holkesvig) Erickson. She was raised and attended school in Portland, ND graduating in 1968.  She then completed the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program at NDSCS.

   Fyrne married Michael Berthold in 1969 in Portland, ND. Fyrne and Mike had two children, John and Misty. Fyrne worked as an LPN at the nursing home in Halstad, MN before returning to Mayville, ND where she worked at Union Hospital for many years. She was a skilled and respected nurse.  Additionally, Fyrne volunteered for numerous years for the West Traill Ambulance Service as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); not only did she volunteer as an EMT, she was also directly involved with the Health Education Network to provide regional training to new EMTs in Traill County. After winning the prestigious North Dakota EMT of the Year Award in 1992, it was stated that “her style of openness, directness, and “speaking her mind” lent itself to the development of an efficient and professional ambulance service. Her leadership, commitment, energy, and devotion to the emergency medical field were also praised.

   Fyrne was an avid reader, a chocolate enthusiast, and a dog lover. She also enjoyed baking and spending time with her family and a group of special high school friends affectionately known as the “Rat Pack”.

   She is survived by her son: John (Kari); grandsons: Eric and Nicholas Berthold all of Thompson, ND; brother: Roger (Linda) Erickson of Portland, ND); two nieces: Ann Ellison of Mapleton, ND and Amy Jacobson of West Fargo, ND and their families.

   Fyrne is preceded in death by her beloved daughter: Michelle “Misty” Leigh Berthold and her parents.

Visitation:  Will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND.

Burial: Will be in the Bruflat Cemetery in Portland, ND.
