Eloise Irene Hanson

Eloise Irene Hanson, 90, of Bismarck, passed away peacefully January 30, 2026 in Bismarck, ND.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Thursday, February 5, at Gran Lutheran Church, 15603 Co Hwy 13, Mayville, ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Burial will be held at Gran Lutheran Church Cemetery in Mayville, ND.

She was born July 22, 1935 in Steele County ND to Ingvald and Edith (Foss) Strand. Eloise attended school in Finley, ND and in April of 1952 married Daryl Mapel. To this union six children were born. Marie (deceased 1952), Jeanine, Wanda, Dale, Rick and Joan. Daryl passed away in 1958.

After Daryl's passing, she and the children moved to Mayville, and it was there she met Marvin Hanson and they were married December 28, 1962. They had a son Mark (deceased 1975). Marvin and Eloise and the family lived near the Gran church. She was very active in her church and truly loved the church and congregation.

She hosted holidays, took care of grand kids, gardened and maintained a beautiful home. She also worked alongside Marvin helping with the gravel business they owned. Her and Marvin spent a number of winter where they traveled to Arizona in their camper. They also very much enjoyed camping and fishing with their very dear friends. After they sold the business and their farm, they moved to Mayville and lived there for a time before moving to Portland, OR. Marvin passed away November of 1998. After living in Portland for a number of years she eventually moved to Bismarck living there until her passing.

Eloise thrived being a homemaker (she really had no choice with all these kids), there was never a of shortage of cooking or baking at her house as she loved to entertain. Her appearance was always impeccable. We would kid that mom certainly was a "girlie" girl. That held true till the end. Anything blue or pink for sure made the cut!!

Mom persevered many heartbreaks in her life but the one thing that never left was her faith.

Eloise is survived by her children, Jeanine Asbridge (Bismarck), Wanda (Bruce) Raulston Bismarck, Dale (Becky) Mapel (Barnesville, MN), Rick (Gail) Mapel (Providence Forge, VA), and Joan Mapel (Bismarck); grandchildren, Dan (Jessica) Mapel, Adam (Vanessa) Mapel, Stacy (Jason) Mapel Drees, Renae (Brett) Sauer, Allison (Joe) Braun, Angie Bjerkle, Candace Aasen, and Jill Pelton. Also, survived by sister-in-law, Helen Olson; and cousin, Jennifer Eagen. There are 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren with two more arriving spring of 2026.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Daryl and Marvin; daughter, Marie; son, Mark, and; grandson, Ross Mapel; parents, Edith and Ingvald; brother/sister-in-law, Ingmar and Elaine Strand.
