Doris Doreen Knodle Domier joined her Heavenly Father on Monday, June 8, 2026 at the age of 99.
She was born on September 13, 1926 in Hope, ND to Eva and Harry Knodle. She was raised on a farm by Clifford, North Dakota until she moved into Hope to attend high school. She graduated at the age of sixteen as the salutatorian of her Hope High School class.
Doris took the teaching exam and began teaching school at the age of sixteen in the Roseville country school. She rented a room from Helen and Leonard Domier and that is where she met her future husband, Lawence Domier. They married on June 10, 1945 at Lake Benton, Minnesota at the home of Doris’s aunt, Minnie Kretsinger. Later Doris taught school in Sherbrook township. They continued to farm in the Clifford area even after they moved to Mayville in 1959, until Lawrence died on May 8, 1967 in a farming accident.
Doris worked at Mayville State University in food services and as a nurse’s aide at Mayville Lutheran Memorial Home and later as a receptionist at the Mayville Clinic. In 1968, Doris temporarily moved with her children to Crookston, Minnesota to pursue a Licensed Practical Nursing degree, graduating in 1969. She returned to Mayville to work as a nurse at Luther Memorial home. Doris’s faith was very important to her and she loved sharing her love of Jesus with her children, grandchildren and the many children she taught as a Sunday School Teacher at Mayville Lutheran Church for many years. Her final years were happily spent at Hatton Prairie Village.
Doris and Lawrence had five children; Larry (Eileen) Domier, Linda (Richard) Fisher, Doreen (Dennis) Rosevold, Laurie (Scott) Berry and Donalee (Fred) Strand. Doris is survived by her four children; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
