Donna Mae Bakkum

July 20, 1932 — March 9, 2022

   Donna Mae (Aasen) Bakkum, 89, of Mayville ND, passed away March 9, 2022 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville ND.

   Donna was born July 20, 1932, the daughter of Gilbert and Josephine (Coltom) Aasen.  She grew up and attended school in Lindaas Township, rural Mayville, and high school in Mayville, graduating in 1950. Donna received her teaching certification from Mayville State Teachers College. She taught elementary school from 1952-1957 in Arthur and Hillsboro, ND. 

   Donna began dating Earle Bakkum in high school and they were married June 20, 1954, after Earle’s return from service in Korea. They were blessed with two sons, Paul born in 1958 and Jonathan in 1960. Donna and Earle farmed south of Mayville where Donna delivered many meals to the field, which included tables, chairs and multicourse meals. Donna also was a gardener and loved working with her flower beds. In 1990, Earle and Donna retired, and in 1992 moved to Mayville. In retirement, they enjoyed their winters in Mesa, AZ. Donna was a lifelong member of First American Lutheran Church, being baptized, confirmed and married in the church she loved and served.

   Donna is survived by her sons: Paul (Diane) Bakkum of Bismarck, ND and Jonathan (Kari) Bakkum of Mayville, ND; grandchildren: Jennifer (Rick) Neumann, Matthew (Jane) Bakkum, Mark Bakkum, Jill (Ryan) Ehrmantraut, Kristen (Brett) Barksdale, and Peter Bakkum; great grandchildren: Grace, Emma and Grant Neumann; Madeline and Percy Bakkum; Easton and Molly Ehrmantraut;  Elijah, Micah and Josephine Barksdale; sisters-in-law: Alice Aasen, Nora Bakkum, Jean Walstad and Ruth Flaten; and numerous nieces and nephews.

   Donna was preceded in death by her husband: Earle in 1999; parents: Gilbert and Josephine Aasen; granddaughter: Katie Bakkum; sisters: Inez Fiskum and Adeline Ellingrud; brothers: Palmer, Gilman, Orlo, Carl, Earl, Ernest and Marlowe Aasen.

Visitation:  Will be 3–5PM on Sunday, March 13, 2022 with a 4:30 PM Public Prayer Service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: Will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March, 14, 2022 at the First American Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND.

Burial: Will be in the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
