On October 9th, 2025, Our Heavenly Father called Dennis home after a long journey with early-onset dementia.
Dennis John Rindy was born on February 9, 1955, to Bennett and Marie (Holmes) Rindy in Mayville, ND. He grew up on the Rindy farmstead in rural Portland, ND. He learned a strong work ethic from his dad while growing up on the farm. Dennis began driving a tractor when he was eight years old–a skill forever embedded into his muscle memory, because he was still able to drive his John Deere 4020 and run the flat blade a few years into his dementia diagnosis.
After graduation in 1973 from Mayville-Portland High School, he enrolled at NDSU where he received degrees in Mechanized Agriculture and Physical and Health Education. While attending NDSU, he met Nancy Niemann, the younger sister of his roommate, Lynn Niemann. After graduation from NDSU, he moved to Aberdeen, SD, and worked as a district sales manager for International Harvester. Then in the fall of 1981, he returned to Portland to help his dad farm, who was recovering from a heart attack. While home, Dennis enrolled at Mayville State to take calculus and introduction to computer courses. At Mayville State, he crossed paths with Nancy again and this time they fell in love. They were married on May 8th, 1983. Together they had four daughters and made their home on the Rindy farm. Dennis took over farming for his dad in 1991 and he continued farming until 2021. A couple of years after the twins were born, he sold the cattle on the farm and went back to Mayville State in 1999 to receive his third and final degree in Computer Information Systems. He worked for NDSU in the Agricultural Bio-Systems Department for a couple years before joining Precision Partners in Fargo doing GIS mapping until his retirement in 2014.
Dennis was forced to slow down after his dementia diagnosis in 2018, and because of that, God blessed him with devoted time to spend with his children, grandchildren, and his wife of 42 years, Nancy.
Dennis was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and even took his family to visit Graceland in Memphis, TN, in the summer of 2009. During his long commutes to Fargo, he’d listen to Elvis Radio on Sirius XM. He loved watching Minnesota Twins baseball and NDSU Bison football. Though being incredibly busy with two full-time jobs, he never missed an opportunity to play “H-O-R-S-E” or “P-I-G” in the backyard with his girls. He was an active member at Perry Lutheran Church throughout his life, and he and Nancy intentionally passed down their faith to their children. His family is comforted knowing that Dennis is with his Savior and they'll see him again someday, fully healed.
