Delores A Pittenger

Delores Pittenger, 90, passed away October 16, 2025, at Essentia Health of Fargo, after a very brief illness.

Delores Anderson was born in Willow, Township, Griggs County, ND. To Gerhard & Clara (Evenson) Anderson. She grew up and attended school in the Griggs County area. She met and married Robert D. Pittenger on December 23, 1951, while he was home on leave from the Air Force. Together they raised 4 children, Pamela, Renee, Eugene & Julie.

Bob and Delores moved to Portland, ND in 1966 where she lived until January of 2025 when she moved to Bethany Gables in Fargo ND. Even though Delores left many dear friends behind, she loved her short time at Bethany, met new friends, started new hobbies, and so enjoyed her busy days filled with game time, coffee hours and faith-based activities that were so important to her.

Delores worked for many years for the Traill County Extension Agent. In 1976 she started a new job at Mayville State University, where she worked until her retirement, as an Administrative Assistant in the Education Department. She made many lifelong friends, one of her closest, Nannette Bagstad. After their retirement, you rarely saw one without the other, either in the front pew at church, long lunches after services, or any other social event. If one was invited, the other one was always included. She mentored many work study students over the years and instilled in them the same strong work ethic she had and proudly passed down to her own children.

Delores & Bob loved decorating for all holidays, especially Christmas. Many people enjoyed driving by their big house on the corner with candelabras lit in every window. They were especially proud of the public accolades they received over the years.

Delores spent countless hours sewing special holiday dresses for her granddaughters, crocheting and knitting. Each one of her grandchildren and great grandchildren received a handmade baptismal gown and blanket with hours of love poured into each stitch. She took great pride in choosing the style, the material for each gown, and the compliments she received from everyone for her talents.

Every Thursday she could be found having lunch at Paula’s followed by an afternoon of repurposing greeting cards and other projects, with a group of dear friends fundraising for the Caring Club of Sanford Hospital.

Delores is survived by her 4 children, Pamela Spampani, Mukilteo, WA, Rob, Kristine and Bella Spampani, Renee Torgeson (Richard), Mayville, ND, David, Hunter and Madison, and Heather Torgeson, Ryker, Emrie, Nolan and Maddux, Eugene Pittenger (Tracie Decker), Mt Vernon, WA, and Alex Hathaway, Julie Larson (Eric) Pelican Rapids, MN, Alysia Larson and Steve Burkett, Braxton and Zinnia, and Audra and Challis Williams, and her sister Dorothy Casey, Minneapolis, KS.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert of 60 years, her son-in-law Robert Spampani, her brother Sidney Anderson, and her sister Lorraine Stephens.

Per Delores’s wishes there will be no funeral. God bless the memory of Delores Pittenger.
