Deanna Mae Marks

   Deanna Mae Marks passed away peacefully on Oct 24, 2020 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND at the age of 80.

   She was born July 29, 1940 in Steele County North Dakota to Jeanette and Edwin Evanson. She grew up on the farm and attended Primrose #2 School and graduated in 1958 from Portland High School.

   Upon graduation, Dee moved to Minneapolis to attend Gale Airline Institute where she met her best friend Kay (Sholty) Webster. They then moved to Washington DC and she worked as Civilian Personnel for the Dept. of Navy. In the early 1960’s she and Kay decided to move to Los Angeles when Dee’s parents relocated there and took the Greyhound bus cross country.

   Dee lived and worked in various cities in CA before finding her happy place in Reno NV where she spent 40 plus years. There she married Dan Marks and had 1 daughter Stacy. She worked for Harrah’s Corp, Washoe County Public Defenders, managed Manpower Inc. and various other administrative jobs. Dee loved music and played the piano and organ from a very young age. Upon the diagnosis and advancement of dementia, Dee returned to her birth place to spend her final days.

   Dee is survived by her sister Bonnie Balstad, Reno, NV; her 6 brothers: Merle (Bonnie) Evanson, Live Oak, CA; Dale (Arlene) Evanson, Prescott Valley, AZ; Lyle Evanson, Fargo, ND; Wayne (Jan) Evanson, Acton, CA; Bruce Evanson, Dunnville, KY and Brian Evanson, Acton, CA; and brother-in-law Truman Thykeson, Mayville, ND.  She is also survived by all her nieces, nephews, cousins and daughter. 

   She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanette and Edwin Evanson; sister, Janice Thykeson.

   The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers and staff at the Luther Memorial Home for their compassionate care over the past year and a half.

   The family requests no flowers be sent; memorials preferred to Luther Memorial Home, Hospice of the Red River Valley or donor’s choice.

Private services will be held at a future date.
