David K. Lucken

October 13, 1937 — September 25, 2020

David Lucken, 82, of Hatton, ND died on September 25, 2020 at the Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton, ND.

David was born October 13, 1937 to Bernt and Audrey (Sparrow) Lucken of Portland, ND. He attended Viking Twp. #1 School through the 8th grade. David was baptized and confirmed at Bruflat Lutheran Church in Portland. While attending Portland High School, at age 17, he and friends went hunting. A serious accident occurred, leaving him paralyzed on his left side and mostly blind. With help from his parents, his strength was returned enough to finish high school and go on to Mayville State , receiving a bachelor of science and major in History; Audrey was his eyes.

David purchased and managed the Confectionary Store in Mayville. He married Rosemund Fliginger in 1966. They moved to Fargo and managed a Coffee Shop in the Post Office. On September 6, 1973 his daughter Dawn was born. She was the joy of his life and he was always so proud of her achievements.

He retired to the Eventide in Moorhead, MN, working through Green Thumb as a “Welcomer” to the home. He also sang in church groups. David went to several “Promise Keeper” conventions and was thankful to the staff that helped him attend. He was always so thankful to his caregivers and anyone that helped him and prayed for him. David received many honorary plaques for things he did.

In 2003 he entered the Hatton Prairie Village where he honored everyone before each meal with a solo of the table prayer. He enjoyed singing, attending church and weekly bible study. David knew several Bible verses by heart. He studied the Bible every way possible and celebrated his rebirth, thankful for each day to have learned about his eternal life; he spoke of this often.

David leaves behind his joy: Dawn (James) Lucken-Hills and grandson: Amos Lucken-Hills all of St Paul, MN; sisters: Annette (Clem Petrick) Schafer and Elizabeth Matthews all of Portland, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding in death are his parents; wife: Rosemund; and step-father: Orton Ives.
