Dana Lee Nelson

Dana Nelson, 67, of Portland, ND passed away on August 13, 2026 at at home with Hospice and his loving wife by his side.

Dana Lee Nelson was born March 10, 1959, in Mayville, ND, at Union Hospital to Albert and Shirley Nelson (Reynolds). Dana attended Hatton School and graduated in 1977. After that, he worked various jobs from farming to cement work and finally taking over the family farm with his Dad, who frequently came out to help when he could. Dana also served on the elevator board and the co-op board for a number of years.

Dana met, fell in love, and became engaged to Laura Metzen in 1993. They moved out to the farm in 1996 when Dana's parents moved to town. The couple were working and farming together and also enjoyed deer hunting with a group of friends they had for many years. They both retired in 2019. They moved to Portland in 2021. On December 7, 2024, they became husband and wife.

Dana is survived by his wife: Laura; mother: Shirley Nelson of Hatton; mother-in-law: Alvina Volla (the late Kenneth Volla) of Hatton; brother: David Nelson of Fargo; sister: Nadine Rebsch (the late Charles Rebsch) of Fargo; sister-in-law: Karen Gabbert of Hankinson; 8 nieces and nephews; 10 great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew. He is also survived by his uncle: Don (Diane) Nelson of Vancouver, WA; an aunt: Lucille (the late Gene) Rehak of Vancouver, WA. Dana was reunited with his Dad, Albert, in heaven.

Visitation: Will be 5–7:00 PM with a 6:30 PM Public Prayer Service on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at St John Lutheran Church in Hatton, ND.

Burial: Will be in the St John Cemetery in Hatton, ND.
