Carol B. Moen

December 26, 1920 — January 22, 2021

Carol Bernice Richards, Mayville ND was born December 26th, 1920 in Kragness Township, MN to William and Bessy (Vigness) Richards.

Carol was the fifth of eight children and became a caretaker at a very young age, caring for her younger siblings. This caretaker role was a natural for Carol and continued throughout her life. She had a way of making most anyone feel as if they were special to her, and they really were.

Carol was a 1938 Graduate of Moorhead High School. She then worked for a family for two years before attending Dakota Business College, Fargo ND.  Before graduation she was hired by Knerr Dairy. She walked around the corner and down the block to Knerr Dairy where she was a bookkeeper for 18 years.

She married Harold Moen of Mayville on November 27, 1960 at North Buffalo Lutheran Church, rural Kragness. Harold had two sons, John and Paul whom she proudly raised as her children, and together they had Richard and Susan.

Carol learned to drive when she moved to Mayville which served her well as she was very active within the community. She was a long-term member of the Luther Memorial Home Auxiliary and a 50+ year member of the Morgan homemakers group. She was also active with the Bethany Ladies Aide and Circle groups which later became WELCA.

She entered Luther Memorial Home in March of 2016 where she had and made friends over the years.  Carol was a great listener and loved to hear stories from the staff.  She also continued to participate in activities; she especially loved her afternoon session of Rummikub and reading the paper.

Carol had a goal of making her 100th, birthday which she did on December 26, 2020. She celebrated with 101 birthday cards, pictures, balloons, and birthday cake, along with a Zoom call and face time call with family.
