  Alvin T. Amundson, Jr. (Johnny or Junior) went peacefully into the loving arms of God November 3, 2023 at Luther Memorial Home under the care of Hospice.

   Alvin was born March 28, 1931 to Alvin Sr. and Jorgine Kensrud Amundson. He attended school in rural Portland. Prior to finishing high school his father became ill, he quit school to run the family farm. In January of 1952 he enlisted in the army to serve during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany and worked as a mechanic in the Heavy Mortar Company 12th Infantry. He was discharged as a corporal in December of 1953, he returned to the family farm to continue farming.

   Alvin met and married the love of his life, Janice Vaagene. They were married at her family’s home near Hatton, ND on December 11, 1955. They moved to Hope, ND where he worked as a farm laborer. Later they moved back to his family farm where he took over the operation.

   He enjoyed farming, spending time with his family, playing cards, snowmobiling, and taking some fishing adventures. He loved taking his grandchildren to Rollag for the steam thresher’s reunion and just to sit and tease them. He enjoyed many meals at Paula’s Café where he spent hours visiting with friends and talking farming.

He and Janice were blessed with four children, Janie, Steven, Richard, and Terry.

   Alvin is survived by his daughter: Janie (Chad) Cutshaw of Grand Forks, ND; son: Steven (Donna) Amundson of Michigan, ND; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jeremy (Betsey) Aasen: Gretta and Elsie; Jennifer Aasen (Peder Ellingson): Averie, Landon and Quinn; Katie (Marty) Eliason: Trent, Jadon, Kody, Idella, Noah, and Tyler; Gene Amundson (Amanda Landa): Kaydence, Leah, Maverick and Ridley. Special devoted friends: Karen Amundson, Richard Moen, Nick Rasmussen and four legged friends: Luna (Nick’s dog) and Princess (LMH therapy dog). He is also survived by a sister: DeLores Amb; sisters and brothers-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews.

   He is preceded in death by his wife: Janice; sons: Richard and Terry; his parents; several brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Visitation:  Will be 5–7 PM on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 with a 6:30 PM Public Prayer Service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: Will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND.

Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors.

Burial: Will be in the Aurdal Cemetery in Portland, ND.
