Alice Lee Strand

March 2, 1918 — February 11, 2020

Alice Lee Strand, 101, of Mayville, ND, died on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville.

Alice was born on March 2, 1918 in rural Mayville and was one of twelve children of Andrew and Anna (Ramsfield) Lee. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church across from their farmstead. She attended Morgan Township #3 for elementary school and graduated from Mayville High School. Alice received her teaching degree at Mayville State Teachers College prior to teaching in Norman Township and Viking Township.

On June 14, 1942, she married Elmer Strand at Bethany Church. They farmed in rural Portland until 1988, when they moved into Mayville. Elmer died July 17, 2004, after celebrating 62 years of marriage. Alice remained in her home in Mayville until 2011, when she moved into the Sun Center in Mayville. She has been a resident of Luther Memorial Home since the summer of 2015.

During her lifetime, she was an industrious farm wife, Sunday School and Bethel Bible Series Teacher, President of Aurdal Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and President of the Mayville Senior Center for six years.  She valued her role as a godmother to thirteen nieces and nephews.  Alice was all about hospitality and generosity.

In 1963, she went to work at the Luther Memorial Home as a certified nurse assistant. She continued that work until she was 75 years old: 30 years. Many of her co-workers enjoyed her sense of humor as well as her caring manner. She was an excellent cook and lefse maker and shared her skills with others that were interested in learning the process.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Andrew and Anna; husband: Elmer; son: Richard; siblings: Abner, Arthur, Kenneth, Harold, Inez, Margaret, Mildred, Olivia and Sophia.

She will be missed by her daughter: Adrienne (Larry) Buboltz; son: Arlie (Peggy) Strand; grandchildren: Mitchell (Jackie) Buboltz, Michael (Edenia) Buboltz, TJ (Karen) Buboltz, Michelle (Chuck) Juntunen, Bryan (Meg) Strand, Chad (Minda) Strand and DeAnna (Shane) Kyllo; as well as seventeen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; sisters:  Dorothy Grage and Clarice Kennedy; sisters-in-law: Evelyn and Lorraine Lee: brothers-in-law: David Boyer and Marlow (Yvonne) Strand; and sisters-in-law Solveig Jondahl, Helen, Evelyn and Opal Strand.
