Albert C Ness, Jr

Albert C. Ness, Jr, 94, of Mayville, formerly of Sharon, ND died on August 31, 2026 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

Albert Clifford Ness, Jr. was born September 24, 1931 on the family farm east of Sharon, ND to Albert Clifford Ness and Mabel Jensen Ness. He completed grade school at the one room schoolhouse in Westfield township and graduated from Sharon High School in 1949. In 1954 he graduated from North Dakota Agricultural College (NDSU) with a degree in Agriculture. He received a master’s degree in Business Management from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1966.

From 1954 to 1975 Al was a U.S. Air Force Command pilot in KC97/KC135 arial tankers and additional cargo/passenger aircraft. Al’s love of flying was lifelong, and he often flew in his dreams. Al was stationed around the world, including Goose Bay Air Base, Labrador, Canada; Johnson AFB on the outskirts of Saigon, South Vietnam; Langley AFB, Hampton, VA; and Tyndale AFB, Panama City, FL. Major Albert C Ness Jr. retired in 1975.

Al married Dorothy (Dottie) Newton July 18, 1971 when he was stationed in Hampton, VA. They have two daughters, Jennifer Ness-Myers and Karena Ness Bergin and 4 granddaughters: Carissa Myers, Caitlin Myers, Allyson Bergin, and Ingrid Bergin.

Upon retirement from the Air Force, Al returned to Steele County in ND where he was a small grains farmer. Al was a 3rd generation farmer for 27 years and retired from farming in 2002. Al was an active member of the Sharon Lutheran Church. Al and Dottie moved to Mayville, ND in 2013 where they were members of the Ebenezer Lutheran Brethren Church.

Albert is survived by his wife: Dottie; children: Jennifer Ness-Myers (Scott) and Karena Bergin; grandchildren: Carissa and Caitlin Myers, Allyson and Ingrid Bergin; niece: Sarah (Blaine) Zainhofsky; nephew: Eric (Alicia) Hillesland; cousins: John (Linda) Jensen and Joel (Lauren) Jensen, and multiple grandnieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Mabel Ness; sisters: Ann Hillesland and Jean Hemphill; brother-in-law: Manley Hillesland; nephew: Steven Hillesland and cousins: David Jensen and Mark Jensen.

Memorials can be made in Al’s memory to Ebenezer Lutheran Brethren Church, 15 3rd Ave NE, Mayville ND 58257.

Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND.

Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors.

Burial: Will be in at 1 PM Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at the Westfield Cemetery in rural Sharon, ND.
