Lyder M. Swenson

Lyder Swenson Lyder Swenson, 75, of Mayville, ND, formerly of Cando, ND, died peacefully Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Union Hospital in Mayville. He battled a near lifetime heart condition and in later years, leukemia. He was born on the family farm southeast of Cando, ND, on September 8, 1931, the son of Ludwig and Martha (Rodland) Swenson. He attended the Cando School and graduated in 1949. Lyder farmed together with his parents until the death of his father in 1955. At that time, he took over the farm and continued on his own. In 1960, Lyder was united in marriage to Irene Baldock. To this marriage, three children were born; Lori, Bonnie and Larry. He continued to farm until retiring in 1978. After retiring, the couple continued to make their home on the farm until 2002. At that time, they moved to their retirement home in Mayville, where Lyder and Irene have resided since. The highlight of his year was when he attended the Summer Church Convention at Portage LaPrairie, Manitoba. Each year he looked forward to seeing all the familiar faces, both Canadian and American. Lyder was an excellent listener and had a genuine interest in people. He was active on the Maza Township Board and the Election board for many years. Lyder is survived by his wife Irene of Mayville; one daughter Bonnie (Darrell) Leonhardt of Riverton, WY; one son Larry (Lisa) Swenson of Cando; three grandsons Lex Leonhardt, Victor Swenson and Jonathan Swenson; two granddaughters Katie Swenson and Amy Swenson. He is also survived by one sister, Ardella Evenson, of Hibbing, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Lori Swenson, sister Alma Ostreim and two brothers Kermit and Bert Ostreim. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the May-Port High School Auditorium in Mayville, ND. VISITATION: From 6-8 PM Friday, February 23, 2007 at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the Auditorium. BURIAL: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Cando, ND.
