Lucille Evelyn (Brandsted) Rygh

July 28, 1921 — September 20, 2010

Lucille Evelyn Rygh, 89, of Mayville, ND, died Monday, September 20, 2010 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Lucille was born July 28, 1921 in Fenton, Iowa, the third child of Edgar G. and Esta E. (Snelson) Trego. The family moved to the Arthur/Erie area settling in rural Arthur, ND in early 1920. She was baptized and confirmed in the Arthur Methodist Church. She attended and graduated from the Arthur High School in 1939. Lucille married Fred Brandsted in Moorhead, MN on June 3, 1939, becoming a farmer’s wife working and raising a family of four children. The young family farmed in the Arthur area until 1949, moving to Kathryn to farm and ranch until 1954, and then relocating to farm in the Galesburg/Clifford area. Fred passed away March 3, 1966. Starting in 1959 Lucille worked in the food service business as a manager/cook, a school cook, and a restaurant owner until she retired in 1992. Lucille sang and played guitar for many years, teaching her children and their children her love of music. She sang in several church choirs, taught Sunday school, and worked with ladies aides, enjoying a lifetime of serving others and her family. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing and quilting, cooking and baking, making music, and a lot of home refurbishing. She attended many church and school activities of her children and grandchildren, and loved to travel to visit her families in other states. She was a member of various Lutheran Churches. She married Theodore Rygh on April 14, 1967 at Stordahl Lutheran Church in Galesburg. After several years of moving, they finally settled in Fargo. Theodore passed away in 1999 and she later moved to the Mayville-Portland area to be closer to her family. In 2007 she became a resident of the Sun Center apartments in Mayville enjoying the many visits, activities, chapel services, coffee hours, card playing, and puzzles with her friends. Lucille was always a busy and energetic lady. Surviving are her three sons, Ed (Diana), Ron (Janice), Gene (Kathleen); daughter, Frances Reinke-Ust; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Lorraine Ingnell, Bernard (Audrey) Trego, Myra Grothman; brother-in-law, James Hobbs; and sister-in-law, Rita Trego. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, brothers Marvin (Carolyn), Robert (Doris), Sisters Lavilla (Robert) Hill, Maureen Hobbs, brothers-in-law Clifford Ingnell and Dennis Grothman. Blessed be the memory of Lucille Rygh Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Friday, September 24, 2010 at Bruflat Lutheran Church, Portland, ND. Visitation: Will be Thursday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Luther Memorial Home Chapel, Mayville, ND, and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church. Burial: Will be 2 PM at the Arthur Cemetery, Arthur, ND.
