Samuel Chris Leland

Samuel Chris Leland, 28, of Portland, ND, died Sunday, August 8, 2010 as a result of an automobile accident in rural Portland. Sam was born the son of James Sr. and Penny (Dakken) Leland on December 21, 1981 at Union Hospital in Mayville. Sam grew up on the farm in rural Portland. He graduated in 2000. He was a member of Bang Lutheran Church. He enjoyed working on the farm with his dad and brothers. Sam loved spending time with his friends. He enjoyed the household pets and working with animals. Sam always had time for his nieces and nephews. He was a “favorite uncle”. Sam is survived by his parents, James Sr. and Penny Leland of Portland; two brothers, Stuart (Kammi) Leland of Portland, and James Jr. (Christina) Leland of Arnaudville, LA; grandmother, Phyllis Dakken of Mayville; nieces, Milah, Gracie and Leighton Leland; nephews, Cort and Dane Leland; and sister-in-law, Brandi of Lawton, OK. Sam was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Einar Leland and Orville Dakken; and brother, Jacob Leland. Visitation: 5-7 PM Thursday, August 12, 2010 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Baker Funeral Home in Mayville, and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church.
