Laurie Eva Berry

May 9, 1957 — July 20, 2010

Laurie Eva Berry, 53, of Mayville, ND, left behind a life of love and service on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at her home in Mayville. She loved her husband, her children, her mother, her brother and sisters, nieces and nephews -- both those born to her and through marriage. She loved her friends, her students, babies, watermelon, sugary treats, and chocolate. Laurie loved the community of Mayville so much that she felt the rest of the world revolved around it. And she loved life even through her long and courageous battle with cancer. Laurie Domier was born in Mayville, ND on May 9, 1957 to Doris (Knodle) and Lawrence Domier. On August 9, 1980, Laurie married the love of her life, Scott Berry of LaMoure, ND. She attended school in Mayville, graduating from Mayville State University with a degree in elementary education. She was a classroom teacher in Michigan, North Dakota and Clifford, North Dakota. She later graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Doctorate in Education. Laurie was a professor at Mayville State University and served as an adjunct professor for the graduate schools at the University of North Dakota and Minot State University at the time of her death. Laurie loved attending her children’s sporting and school events. Over the years, she learned to love baseball (though never quite understanding all of the intricacies) and became a staunch supporter of her husband’s baseball coaching career (though she often teased that she liked basketball “just a little bit better”). And most of all, she loved hosting family gatherings and gatherings of all kinds. While Laurie lived in the same geographic area all of her life, her impact reached into the far corners of the world as her more than 100,000 Caring Bridge messages reflected. Her love of teaching was obvious and her dedication as an educator affected the lives of many students and teachers. She loved helping others learn and was masterful at it. Her loving nature will be missed by many. Laurie leaves behind her mother, Doris Domier of Mayville; husband (George) Scott Berry of Mayville; daughter and son-in-law Larissa and Tony Champion of Little Canada, MN; three sons, Mickey, Alex and Christian Berry all of Mayville; one brother, Larry (Eileen) Domier of Mayville; and three sisters, Linda (Richard) Fisher of Lake Park, MN; Doreen (Dennis) Rosevold of Mayville and Donalee (Fred) Strand of Hatton, ND. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and numerous in-laws who love and miss her. She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Domier.
