Paul Joseph Frappier

November 22, 1922 — June 16, 2010

Paul Joseph Frappier Jr., 87, of Portland, ND, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Paul was born on November 22, 1922, to Paul and Amy (Briss) Frappier in Kensal, ND. He grew up on the family farm by McHenry, ND. Paul was united in marriage to Beverly (Brown) on June 7, 1949. Together they raised 6 children (5 daughters and a son) on a farm across the road from Paul and Amy. Paul instilled in his children the values of faith, unconditional love, caring for all God’s creatures, responsibility to family and those less fortunate, and enjoyment of the simpler things in life. His children have many memories of gatherings with the large ‘Frappier’ family, attending church and appreciating God’s miracles while observing nature, working with their dad doing chores on the farm and loving their many pets and ‘rescued’ animals throughout their childhood. Paul and Beverly moved to the Mayville-Portland area after leaving the family farm. Beverly died in 1996 after a long battle with cancer. Paul married Elaine (Hanson) on July 3, 1999. They were foster grandparents at the MSU Child Development Center for many years. Paul enjoyed playing with the kids, be it having a ‘tea party’ or playing with toy horses and trucks in the sand. Paul also enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He made many furniture pieces as well as helping his daughters and others with his carpentry skills. Paul was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church as his faith was a very important part of his life. He is survived by his wife: Elaine of Portland; five daughters: Linda Short of Portland, Sandi (Doug) Anda of Mayville, Kathy (Terry) Young of Devils Lake, Pam (Randy) Ness of Hatton and Becky (Kris) Moen of Mayville; one son: Chad Frappier of Minneapolis, MN; two step-children: Linda Carlson of Archie, MO and Larry (Cathy) Evenson of Garden City, MO; 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; one sister: Alice Feland of Bismarck; two brothers: Alfred (Joann) Frappier of McHenry and Clarence (Marge) Frappier of McHenry. Paul is preceded in death by his wife: Beverly in 1996; son-in-law: Jack Short; sister: Evelyn Westerhausen; brother: Richard Frappier; step-grandson: Stanley Olson. Visitation: Will be from 5 – 7 PM Monday with a public prayer service at 7 PM at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mayville and will resume one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Service: 11 AM Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mayville. Burial: Mayville Cemetery
