Hazel Aletha Holland

Hazel Holland, Buxton, ND, died Monday, September 18, 2006, at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, ND, after a 6 year battle with cancer. She was 82 years old. Hazel Aletha Rogenes was born January 7, 1924, on her grandparents farm near Buxton, ND, the daughter of Anton and Johanna (Kveen) Rogenes. She married Verne Holland on August 26, 1948 in Crookston, MN. Their son Steven Charles was born November 29, 1954 in Fargo, ND. Hazel taught school for 30 years. She taught in one room school houses in ND, worked for the ND Seed Department in Fargo, taught 1st and 2nd grade in Billings, MT from 1959 – 1966, she taught 2nd grade in Livingston, MT from 1966 to 1983, when she retired. After retirement she moved back to Buxton and was actively involved in her church (Ny Stavenger Free Lutheran Church) and TOPS (take off pounds sensibly) in Grand Forks, ND and the Buxton Senior Center. She is survived by her son, Steve (Diana) Holland, Arlington, WA; two granddaughters, Lesa and Jacque, Arlington, WA; two brothers, Joel (Audrey) Rogenes, Ely, MN and Louie (Patty) Falk, Park Rapids, MN; brother-in-law, Glenn (Eleanor) Holland, Hillsboro, ND; sister-in-law Betty Dunn, Fargo, ND; two nieces; and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Verne, infant son Neil, and her parents. FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, September 21, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Ny Stavenger Free Lutheran Church, Buxton, ND. VISITATION: Wednesday, September 20, 2006 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND, and one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church. BURIAL: Immanuel Cemetery East, rural Buxton, ND.
