Juanita Serrano

February 12, 1938 — May 2, 2010

Juanita Serrano, 72, of Mayville, ND, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, at her home in Mayville. Juanita was born on February 12, 1938, the 2nd daughter to Byron and Vera (Holland) Beavers, in Alabama. She grew up and attended school in Alabama. She married Manual Serrano in Florida, and after they separated, she continued to live in Florida until 1992 when she relocated to North Dakota. Over the next 18 years, Juanita lived between Mayville, and Alabama, and when her health declined, she moved back to Mayville to be close to her daughter and family. Juanita spent most of her life caring for others as a health care worker, a job she truly loved. While living in Mayville, she also worked at the college, as a grandmother for kids. Juanita very much loved her dogs, Peaches and Chloe, treating them like her kids. She had a passion for cooking which will be sadly missed – no more biscuits and gravy. - She enjoyed traditional southern cooking and making very large meals for anyone and everyone, including her two dogs. Juanita is survived by her daughters, Carol (Ricky) West of Windere, GA, Kim Sayler of Mayville and Jessica (Jesse) Estrada of Georga; grandchildren, Kellie, Danielle, and Kimberly, all of Georgia, and Michael, Anthony and Benjamin, all of North Dakota; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Ellen (Garfield) Chitwood of Cleveland, AL, Iva Lee (Henry) Shelton of Cleveland, AL, Betsy (Joe) Koenig of Tomah, WI, Betty Hubbard of Tarrant, AL, Ruth White of Brandon, MS and Bill (Brenda) Beavers of Buxton, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Louis Serrano; brother, Joesph Robert Beavers; and brothers-in-law, Carl Hubbard and David White. Visitation: Will be from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Baker Funeral Home of Mayville, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND. Burial: Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Alabama
