Dale H. Moen

Dale H. Moen, 78, of Galesburg, ND, died Saturday, January 2, 2010, at his home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Dale was born September 10th, 1931, on the family farm near Galesburg, the sixth of seven children, to Otto and Emma (Tholen) Moen. He attended Galesburg Public School and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1949. He married Molfrid (Mollie) Smith on June 1st, 1952 in Galesburg. They operated the family farm until Dale retired in 1983. He continued working for others through the years including Peterson Construction of Hunter, Galesburg Elevator, and Midwest Bean of Galesburg. He was a lifelong member of Stordahl Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed and served on church council He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Bill, Richard, Orin, one sister, Emy and son Paul Moen. Dale is survived by his wife Mollie, two daughters Debra, Tomball, TX and Darla (Keith) Spies, Rapid City, SD, one son Roger (Pat Harles), Fargo, ND, daughter in law Jan Moen of Galesburg, soon-to-be-returning son in law Brad Pladson, Tomball TX, nine grandchildren, Danielle Gibson, Devanee Hitchcock, Troy Moen, Hannah Moen, Maggie Moen, Shelby Moen, Cody Moen, Emma Spies, and Sam Spies, four great-grandchildren Kaethe Defrates, Joshua Defrates, Vivian Gibson, Reese Hitchcock, sisters Ivy Harstad, Mayville, Ethel (Dale) Haakensen, Frazee, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dale thoroughly enjoyed life, particularly snowmobiling, pontooning, and jet boating. Despite battling cancer since 2001, Dale maintained a positive outlook on life, blessing family and friends with his ready smile and infamous "one liners". The family expresses deep appreciation for the care he recieved at the Roger Maris Center in Fargo, and through the Hospice Red River Valley "Green Team". The family wishes memorials in Dale's memory be sent to either of these organizations or a charity of your choice. Visitation: Will be 5-7 PM with a 7 PM Prayer Service on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Baker Funeral Home Mayville, and one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Stordahl Lutheran Church, rural Galesburg. Interment: Stordahl Cemetery.
