Norman Harry Jones

May 25, 1925 — June 24, 2006

Norman H. (Jonsey) Jones of Glendale, AZ died Saturday, June 24th, 2006 at age 81, under the care of Hospice at the Sun City Eminual Care Center, Peoria, AZ. Norman was the youngest child of six born to Norman Boyd Jones and Anna Kiefer Jones on May 26, 1925 in Kelso, ND. He lived with his family in the Kelso and Grandin area and later moved to the Page, ND area where they worked on a family farm and operated a general store. Norman attended school in Page, ND in a one room school and later in the public school until 8th grade. Norman worked on a cattle and sheep farm in that area. He left that area at the age of 14 and traveled to relatives in the Bremington, Washington area and secured a job in a housing project and then traveled to Myrtle Creek, Oregon where he worked for Engler Houston Lumber Company setting and hooking cables for logs to travel down the mountain area. He later moved to Junction City, Texas and worked in the oil fields. In 1943 Norman was drafted into the US Army and served there only eight months due to the fact that two of his other brothers were already serving overseas in the military, he was discharged. He enlisted in the US Marines in 1948 and served four years as an engineer. Norman was proud to have served in the USA arm forces and proudly displayed the US and Marine flags. After serving in the military Norman then returned to the Kindred, ND area and worked for the REA as a pole climber and troubleshooter. He also lived in the Vista, CA area from 1952 to 1963 working as a contractor. He then moved to the Arizona area and was a roofing contractor until a roofing accident resulted in breaking both legs and spent one year in the hospital and eventually on crutches and braces. Married at the age of 18 to Gertrude Johnson of Page, ND they had (2) sons. Later married Rhonda (Ronnie) Martin she died in 1954. Later married Dorothy Kapski on January 11, 1985. Norman and Dorothy settled in the Buckeye, AZ area on a small acreage where they had cows, chickens, dogs, cats, birds and nurtured new trees and enjoyed the countryside. He later moved to the Glendale, AZ area after the death of his wife Dorothy on October 14, 1998. He enjoyed visiting North Dakota and visiting family members throughout the years. His last visit to North Dakota was June of 2005 as we gathered to celebrate his 80th birthday. He was a member of various contractors and logging unions, was a lifetime member of the Elks Club Lodge Phoenix West No.2729 in the Glendale, AZ area. He is survived by two sons, Myron Dennis (Paula), Herington, KS. Donald Jones (Kari) Jones of Valley City, ND, grandson Dennis (Tracy) of Las Vegas, NV, granddaughters Sheila (Jason) Ralph, Fargo, ND, Heather Jones, Valley City, ND. Three great grandchildren, Dylan Jones of Las Vegas, and Maria and Trinity Ralph of Fargo, ND and many nieces and nephews. Many Elks Club friends and special care givers Becky Wilson and Patty Agnetseh. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, parents, sister’s Norean (Reanie) (Ray) Kelly, Agrusville, ND, Hattie Mae (Gordon) Stephens, Rock lake, ND, Marjorie (Doug) Kentfield, Gridley, CA, brother’s George, IL, Guy Leonard Jones, ND, a grandson Tony Jones, Hannaford, ND. FUNERAL: Saturday, July 1st 2006 at 10:30 am at the Page Funeral Home. VISITATION: Friday, June 30th, 2006 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm, and one hour before service at Page Funeral Home BURIAL: Page Cemetery, Page, ND.
