Roger O. Bergstrom

Roger Bergstrom died Friday, October 27, 2017, at his home in Mayville, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Roger Olaf Bergstrom was born on July 23, 1950 in Fargo, ND, to Oliver and Lucille (Berge) Bergstrom. He was raised two miles west of Blabon, ND and graduated from Hope High School in 1968. In 1972, he graduated with a dual degree in business at NDSU and hospital administration at Concordia College. Roger was the administrator of the Tri-County Nursing Home in Hatton, ND, from 1972-1975. Following this, he began his love of farming at Bergstrom Ranch with his partners, father, Oliver Bergstrom and brother, Gary Bergstrom. He farmed until turning the reins over to his son, Shannon Bergstrom and nephew, Tor Bergstrom. On February 28, 1976, he married Jan Soholt in Mayville, ND. They lived on the farm until July of 1978, when they moved to Finley. In 2003, they moved to Mayville. Since the year 2000, Roger and Jan have enjoyed the winters in Arizona and the last several summers on Lake Melissa, near Detroit Lakes, MN. While attending NDSU, Roger was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, student senate, and sang all four years in the men’s glee club, performing in two Blue Key musicals. He was active in several organizations, including Masons, Shriners, a past Finley-Sharon school board member, taught ninth grade Sunday school at Finley Lutheran Church, and a state chairman of the Young Farmers and Ranchers in 1978. He was also a member of the Flying Farmers. Roger is survived by his wife: Jan; three sons: Shannon (Denise) Bergstrom of Portland, ND, Corey (Laura) Bergstrom of Hillsboro, ND, and Jerrod (Dena) Bergstrom of Mayville, ND; grandchildren: Ellie and Ethan, Tyler and McKenna, Bailey, Brinley, and Brody; sisters: Marcia Mitzel of Davenport, IA, Nancy (Mike) Kainz of Hope, ND; brother: Gary (LinDa) Bergstrom of Finley, ND; brothers-in-law: Tom (Vicki) Soholt, Rick (Wendy) Soholt and Clark (Pam) Soholt, all of Mayville, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Linda (Ken) Jacobsen; brother: Allen “Benny” Bergstrom and mother and father-in-law: Jerome “Red” and Eleanor Soholt. Visitation: Will be from 5–7 PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 with 7:00 PM Public Prayer Service followed by a Masonic Service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Burial: Will be at the Finley Cemetery in Finley, ND.
