Adelaide G. Smestad

Adelaide G. Smestad, 92, of Hatton, ND, formerly of Mayville, ND died Sunday August 20, 2017 at the Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton, ND. Adelaide was born December 30, 1924, to George and Alma (Foss) Thompson. She attended school in Hatton. She married Howard Smestad on December 13, 1946 and moved to Mayville, ND, where they raised their four daughters. Adelaide was State Class A Women's Horseshoe Champion for four years. She loved competing in tournaments and received numerous other horseshoe awards. She was also an avid bowler and loved to play cards. She and Howard owned and operated Howard's Produce in Mayville where they were known for the beautiful and healthy garden plants they sold each Spring. Adelaide is survived by her children: Laurel (Steve) Larson of Mayville, ND, Loretta Baumann of Scottsdale, AZ, Rhonda (Dart) Poach of Blaine, MN and Cindy (Phil) Jacobson of Belvidere, IL; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister: Jean (Kenneth) Brustad; brother: Orin Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; brother and sister-in-law: Glenn and Luella Thompson; and sister-in-law: Marlys Thompson. Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Memorial Service: 1:00 PM Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton, ND. Burial: Will be at the Mayville Cemetery.
