Eleanor M. Erickson

April 14, 1927 — December 30, 2016

Eleanor Marguerite Erickson, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Eventide Care Center, Fargo, ND. Eleanor was born April 14, 1927 in Lindaas Township, near Mayville, ND to Peter and Hannah (Thompson) Thoreson. She attended grade school and two years of high school at the Lindaas rural school and the last two years of high school in Mayville. On June 12, 1948, Eleanor married Harvey Erickson at the North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Buxton, ND. The couple made their first home and farm in Greenfield Township and in 1953 built a home in Galesburg Township, which was homesteaded by Harvey’s grandfather. She lived there until she was hospitalized shortly before her death. Harvey passed away on February 20, 2009. Together they raised four children, many crops and livestock. Eleanor enjoyed life on the farm. She helped with the work in any way that she could, including driving and unloading trucks, driving tractors and providing meals and taxi service to and from the fields. Eleanor loved donating her talents to her church. Many years were spent playing the organ, singing and organizing programs at the church. She taught Sunday school, was active with the Ladies’ aid and provided delicious food, especially her famous buns, for many church meals. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her life could be described as energetic. A few of the activities she enjoyed were playing games (and winning) with her family and friends, baking and cooking, yard work, watching Twins games and taking care of her cats. Eighteen winters spent in Arizona resulted in meeting many life-long friends. Eleanor and Harvey were both active in the Farm Bureau and The Gideons International. Distributing Bibles and spreading the Gospel was of major importance to them. They loved serving God, family and friends and their country. Eleanor is survived by her children: Ranae (Larry) Womack, Harlyn (Laurel) Erickson, Wesley (Terry) Erickson and Linette Erickson; grandchildren: Brent Bohan, Erica Bohan (Strouse Campbell), Jake Womack, Kate Womack, Marilee Mann, Valerie (Patrick) Hamann, Heath (Traci) Erickson, Seth, Marshall, Hope and Wyatt Erickson; great-grandchildren: Macy, Hanna and Stella Brehmer, Sol Campbell, Isabelle, Cora and Hayden Erickson; sisters: Alpha (Kenneth) Flaten and Nona Erickson; brother: Peter (Betty Lou) Thoreson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Harvey; grandson: Harvest Erickson; brother and sister-in-law: Howard (Betty Lou) Thoreson; brother and sister-in-law: Mayo (Lorette) Thoreson and brother-in-law: Norman Erickson. Visitation: Will be from 5–7 PM on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 with a 7:00 PM Public Prayer Service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Thursday, January 5, 2016 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be in the Stordahl Cemetery, rural Galesburg, ND.
