Gina Amelia Grandalen

Gina Grandalen, 90, of rural Portland, ND, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Union Hospital in Mayville, ND. Gina was born October 16, 1918, to John and Louise (Nelson) Basol and was raised on the family farm in rural Portland. She married Gilmar Grandalen on November 22, 1939 and they farmed in the Portland area until they retired in 1985. Gina was a member of Aurdal Lutheran Church of Portland and was on honorary member of the Ladies Aide there. Gina was an excellent cook and lefse maker. She enjoyed quilting and fishing. She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Gilmar of rural Portland; two sons, Ronald of Cooperstown, ND and James (Faye) of rural Portland, ND; one daughter, Connie (Marvin) Jerome of McClusky, ND. Gina loved her seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and three sisters, Lillian Jemtrud of Fargo, ND, Verna Eckman of Moorhead, MN and Norma Olson of Breckenridge, MN. Gina is preceded in death by her mother and father; one grandson, Dean Grandalen and five brothers. Visitation: Monday, July 13, 2009, from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND, and one hour before the funeral at the church. Funeral: 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Aurdal Lutheran Church, Portland, ND. Burial: Aurdal Cemetery, Portland, ND.
