George Clair Berg, 86, of Hatton, ND died Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Sanford Hospital in Fargo, surrounded by his family. George was born October 6, 1930 in Hatton, ND, the son of George Sr. and Clara (Groven) Berg. He was lucky in life and in love when he married Emilie Ringsrud in 1961. Growing up in rural Hatton he attended grade school at Newburgh number 4. He graduated from Hatton High School and attended the North Dakota State School of Science for a brief time before returning home to take over the family farm. He continued to farm until his “retirement” in 1995 and had remained active in overseeing operations on his farm. George served on church council for both the Goose River Church and St John’s Lutheran Church. He was a part of the church group “Madmen” whose focus was serving the community & fellowship. He was a Hatton City Park board member for 30 years, served as a Board member of the Hatton Farmers Elevator and had been a board member of the Hatton Prairie Village Foundation. He was also an avid and loyal fan of UND hockey, Yankees baseball and Vikings football. George is survived by his wife: Emilie; son Tony and two daughters Melissa (Jim) von Maur and Megan (John) Williams; 7 grandchildren: Alec, Carly, J.D., Ana, Otto, Emilyn and Freddie; his sisters: Clarice Sheppard and Gloria Berg. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jean Bergstrom. George had a very large and loving heart. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Hatton Prairie Village Nursing Home, Red Willow Bible Camp and Oak Grove Lutheran School in Fargo. Visitation will be from 5:30 – 6:30 PM followed by the funeral at 6:30 PM on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Atonement Lutheran Church in Fargo. Visitation will continue from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 15, 2016 with a second funeral at 2:00 PM at the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton. Burial will take place in St. John Cemetery, Hatton, ND.
