Robert "Bud" Strand

Robert "Bud" Strand, 89, of Portland, ND passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Mayville. Robert was born April 19, 1927 in Portland, ND, the son of George and Andrea Strand. He married Opal Anderson in 1945. He graduated from Portland High School and Concordia College. After teaching and coaching in Leeds and Sharon, ND, he returned to the family farm in 1953, farming there until his "retirement" in 1991. He maintained an active role on the farm with his son Matthew until the very end. He was an avid sports fan and participant, playing basketball for Concordia College, slow-pitch softball into his sixties, and golf well into his eighties. He served 24 years on his local school board, represented Traill County on the Garrison Diversion Conservancy Board, and was always very active in his church and community. Bud is survived by his wife: Opal; 5 sons: Jens (Rose), Ken (Kathy), Bob (Joan), Curtis (Connie) and Matthew (Tanya); 1 daughter: Cynthia (Karl) Andreasen; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; his brother: Marlow and sister: Solveig Jondahl. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Jens, Elmer, Gilman, Hartvick "Shocky" and Ardell; a sister: Myrtle Kville and his grandson: Andrew. Visitation: Will be 5–7 PM on Monday, August 15, 2016 with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Bruflat Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Burial: Will take place in the Aurdal Cemetery in Portland, ND.
