LeRoy Elmer Olson, 83, of Hatton, ND passed away peacefully Friday June 24, 2016 at the Hatton Prairie Village. LeRoy was born on May 18, 1933 in Hamberg, ND, the only child of C.E. Olson and Neta (Simms) Olson. He was a high school graduate of Buxton, ND and an Army Veteran of the Korean War. LeRoy worked at The Buxton Bank, Central Valley School, drove school bus and during the summers would drive truck for local beet farmers. LeRoy’s passion was sports and in particular softball and UND sports. As a fast pitch softball player he was inducted into the North Dakota Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame. For fifty years, LeRoy dedicated himself to softball leagues in the state of North Dakota. LeRoy was a great supporter of UND athletics, holding season tickets for several sports! LeRoy also enjoyed a good game of cards and was tough to beat in cribbage! Puzzles and word games kept him occupied at Hatton Prairie Village when he wasn’t watching The TWINS or other teams. LeRoy is survived by loving cousin Patricia Simms Gries, her husband John and their children Michael and Sarah Gries of Edina, MN; an aunt: Beverly Simms and her children Mary, Diane, Patricia and Kevin of Devils Lake, ND; other relatives are his Buxton friends and Hatton Prairie Village friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepfather, Griffin Knutsvig. Memorials preferred to Hatton Prairie Village; Immanuel Lutheran Church or The LeRoy Olson Memorial Women’s & Men’s Basketball Scholarships at UND. Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial Service: 10:30 AM Friday, July 1, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Buxton, ND. Military Honors: North Dakota Military Funeral Honors. Burial: Will be at the Immanuel Cemetery in Buxton, ND.
