Carolyn Joy Roan, 68, of Mayville, ND died Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. Memorial services were held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel, with Pastor Randy Mortenson officiating. Carolyn Joy Oien was born on April 27, 1948 to Carl and Joyce Oien in Devils Lake, North Dakota. She attended first through ninth grade in the Devils Lake School District. She also attended school in South Dakota for a short time period, before graduating high school in Ponderosa, California, in 1966. She was united in marriage to Harold Williams in 1971, and through marriage, brought to this world two wonderful sons, Richard and Micheal. Richard lives in California, and Micheal passed away at a young age. In 1982, Carolyn was united in marriage to Steve Roan. Carolyn worked for GTE, a telephone company, for 30 years as a telephone operator, and retired as a system analyst. She earned a Specialist Associate degree in translating. In 1993, she retired due to medical reasons. While living in Oregon, Carolyn enjoyed crabbing and clamming on the beach, as well as golf, cross country skiing and playing cards. Carolyn was also a traveler. She took many memorable trips to places including Florida, North Carolina, Chicago, Vancouver, California, Oregon, Idaho and Washington. Her most favorite memories after retirement were while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, after her retirement. During her time at Luther Memorial Home she was honored for the many hats she knitted for the troops overseas and for cancer patients. Carolyn Roan is survived by her son, Richard Williams, Canyon Lake, CA and grandchildren Shelby, Jonah, and Sierra; sister Ann (Keith) Anderson, Mayville; nieces Greta (Perry) Paschke, Mayville, Merry (Doug) Gleason, Buxton, Jennifer (Bruce) Otteson, Buxton, and many grandnieces and nephews, and great nieces. She was preceded in death by her son, Micheal Williams; parents, Carl and Joyce Oien; and brother, C. Henry Oien. Carolyn considered the staff of Luther Memorial Home as her extended family. The Baker Funeral Home of Mayville assisted the family with the arrangements.
