Linda Jean Lande

Linda Jean Lande, 73, of Mayville, ND was welcomed home to be with our Lord peacefully in the care of RRV Hospice and Luther Memorial Home, March 1, 2016. Linda was born to Knute and Alma (Svenby) Soholt on August 15, 1942 in Mayville, ND. She was raised on the family farm and attended the Mayville Township School #1 through 8th grade; she continued her education at Mayville Public School graduating from high school in 1960. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education from Mayville State University in 3 years. Linda’s teaching career began in Galesburg, ND and later in the Mayville Public Schools. After moving to Southern California, she taught in the Huntington Beach School District. Linda also enjoyed working at the Luther Memorial Home in the Activities department, sharing her talents with the residents. Linda was married to Mervin Karlstad from June 2, 1962 through May 6, 1986 and lived and farmed east of Mayville, ND. On June 30, 1990 she was united in marriage with James Lande. Before moving home to Mayville in 1994, the couple resided in Huntington Beach, CA. Our sweet Linda will be remembered by the many gifts she continually shared with everyone she met. From an early age, Linda knew that she wanted to be a teacher. She always found a way to share her lessons of love and kindness inside and outside of the classroom. She will always be thought of as a caring, kind, classy and courageous lady. Linda had a beautiful soul. Her faithfulness, strength and love are a testament of her character. Linda cherished her nine grandchildren. She treasured spending time with them and adored each of them as individual precious gifts. She loved to tend to her yard and flowers. Traveling and visiting family was also very important to her. She enjoyed exercising, walking, golfing and playing bridge. Linda belonged to the Mayville Women’s Club, Mayville Lutheran Church Circle, and many Bible study groups, PEO, Mayville Caring Club and the Retired Teachers Association. Linda is survived by her husband, James Lande of Mayville; son: Bruce (Kellie) Karlstad of Devils Lake, ND; step son: Anthony Lande of LeMar, IA; step daughters: Anita McClain of Bristol, IN and Alecia (Scott) Devich of Liberty Township, OH; sisters: Karen (Don) Gilbertson of Fargo, ND and Judy (Robert) Verwest of Finley, ND; and grandchildren: Morgan, Parker and Jaxson Karlstad, Austin, Garrett and Jake McClain, Amber, Hannah and McKenna Devich. Linda was preceded in death by her husband: Mervin Karlstad in 1986; a son: Todd in 1987; a sister: Maxine Strom in 2014; her father: Knute Soholt in 1965 and her mother: Alma (Svenby) Soholt in 2001. It brings the family comfort to know that Linda is in a better place, surrounded by loved ones watching over us all. She has claimed the great reward and found an everlasting peace together with our Lord. Visitation: Will be from 5–6:30 PM with a 6:30 PM Public Prayer Service on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 1:30 PM Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be at the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
