Myrtle Solberg

Myrtle Solberg, 92, passed away on March 24, 2009 at her son’s home in Grand Forks, ND. Myrtle was born to Knute and Sophie (Hefta) Knudson on January 7th, 1917 in Calvin, ND. She spent her youth in Michigan and Mayville, ND. She was confirmed in Mayville Lutheran Church in 1931. She graduated from Mayville High School in 1935 and from Mayville Teachers College in 1937 with a Standard Degree in Elementary Education. She taught at various schools in North Dakota and Montana. She married Marvin Solberg of Clifford on June 7, 1941 at Mayville Lutheran Church. They spent the first year of their marriage in Fargo and then farmed near Clifford until 1960. After raising her four children, Myrtle went back into teaching and continued her education by attending Mayville State College and receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in 1971. After Marvin passed away in 1976, she returned to Mayville from Kalispell, MT to make her home. Myrtle was a member of the Goose River Pioneer Daughters and the Elizabeth circle of Mayville Lutheran. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved to play cards, work crosswords, jumbo puzzles, and keep diaries. Myrtle was a gracious and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her four children, Larry (Shirley) Solberg of Fargo, Kathryn (Gerald) Heinle of Bismarck, David (Bonnie) Solberg of Grand Forks, and Mary (Les) Colen of Bismarck, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law Vivian Solberg. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Clarence and Kenneth, sister Gladys Schultz, two sisters-in-law, Joy Knudson and Borghild Knudson, and one brother-in-law, Ted Schultz. Visitation will be Sunday, March 29, 2009 3-5 pm with a prayer service at 5 pm at Baker Funeral Home in Mayville. Funeral services will be on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 1 pm at Mayville Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Clifford cemetery.
