Ivan D. Skadeland

Ivan D. Skadeland, 89, of Mayville, ND died on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Ivan Duane Skadeland was born on July 10, 1925 in Mayville, ND to Thomas and Nora (Olson) Skadeland. Ivan grew up in the Portland Junction area. He attended Viking Township country school and graduated from Portland High School in 1943. During WWII, he worked in Hastings Nebraska making 16” cannon shells for battle ships. When he returned to the Mayville - Portland area, he went to work for George Hilstad at Traill County Electric. Ivan married the love of his life, Beatrice Iola Satrom on October 9, 1948. Ivan farmed one quarter of land north of Portland for many years while he also worked as an electrician for Edling Electric of Moorhead, MN. He continued to work until he became disabled in 1983. Ivan is survived by four children: Patricia Gail (Larry) Syverson of Mayville, ND, Jeffrey Lee (Lori) Skadeland of Portland, ND, Janet Lynn (Merrill) Meyer of Portland, ND and Christopher Thomas Skadeland of New York City, NY. Ivan has six grandchildren: Ryan, Scott, Jessica, Katie, Thomas and Danna; and one great grandchild: Brittany. Ivan is preceded in death by his wife: Beatrice; his sister: Lois Elaine Brenden and his parents: Thomas & Nora. Ivan was blessed with many good friends and family and will be missed by all who knew him and had the pleasure to meet him. Blessed be the memory of Ivan D Skadeland. Visitation: Will be 5 – 7 PM with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Bruflat Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Burial: Will be at the Bruflat Cemetery, Portland, ND.
