Richard Hartley

June 1, 1932 — June 5, 2015

Richard Hartley, 83, of Mayville, ND passed peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND, with his loving wife Winona at his side. Richard was born June 1, 1932 to William C. Hartley Sr. and Alma Rinz Hartley in Leavenworth Kansas. He attended local schools. He entered the US Army in 1949. Richard married Lita Giovannetti in 1952. They had three children born to them: Linda Doss, twins: Richard Hartley and Donna Towers. They later divorced. He married Winona Stroble. He has five grandchildren, five great-grandsons and three step children: Amy Schrader, Joe Stroble and Terri Stroble numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Richard served at several posts during his Military Service. He was stationed in Germany during the occupation and received the occupation medal. Later, he was stationed in Germany a second time. He also served in Korea along with several posts in the US. Richard served with several divisions to include 1st Infantry Division, 1st Cavalry Regiment and he is a member of the 3rd Armored Division Veterans Group. Richard was a track mechanic/motor pool Sgt for most of his military career. He received several medals and awards from the Amy for his service. He worked as a mechanic in civilian life also. He was a nature lover. He and Winona loved spending time with their family and made several trips throughout the years, traveling to visit and spend time with all of them. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: James R. Hartley, William Clifford Hartley Jr and Benny Hartley and one son: R. Eugene Hartley. He is survived by his wife: Winona of Mayville, ND. Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel, in Mayville, ND. Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND. Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the ND Military Funeral Honors Burial: Will be at the Leavenworth Veterans Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas.
